Memorial Day Weekend Events in Buffalo: What’s Happening

Western New York has a full slate of events confirmed for the long weekend.

Old Fort Niagara “Soldiers Through the Ages” on Saturday, May 23, and Sunday, May 24, 2026, is one of the most distinctive Memorial Day events in the region. The event features a “Parade of the American Soldier” through different eras of U.S. military history, a living history experience that contextualizes the holiday in a way few events can.

The West Seneca 2026 Annual Memorial Day Parade and Ceremony, on Monday, May 25, 2026, at 10 AM, honors the 250th year of American service members sacrificing for the nation. A community-led ceremony with civic weight.

Auburn Memorial Day Parade & Ceremony on Monday, May 25, 2026, at 11 AM in Auburn includes a parade followed immediately by a ceremony at Veterans Memorial Park. Just outside the immediate city, but worth the drive for those who want the full parade experience.

Arcade & Attica Railroad Season Opener on May 23, 24, and 25, 2026, featuring vintage train rides celebrating the return of Steam Engine #18, one of those only-in-Western-New-York experiences.

Buffalo Marathon Weekend runs throughout Saturday, May 23, and Sunday, May 24, downtown. Races, events, and the kind of weekend energy that make the city’s waterfront a great place to cheer on the community.

Buffalo Memorial Day Activities: Where to Spend the Day

Canalside is Buffalo’s waterfront hub with bike rentals, seasonal programming, and views of the Inner Harbor that capture the city at its most accessible. It is the right place for a Memorial Day afternoon with family or a group of friends.

Delaware Park is the city’s signature green space and was designed by Frederick Law Olmsted, with walking trails, Hoyt Lake, and the kind of open lawn that holds up well for a picnic or a long afternoon outside.

Niagara Falls is 20 miles north and one of the most obvious Memorial Day weekend excursions in the region. The American Falls and Goat Island are accessible on foot, and the state park surrounding the falls is free.

The Buffalo and Erie County Naval & Military Park at 1 Naval Park Cove features interactive military exhibits and decommissioned naval vessels.
